در هشتادمین کنگره فدراسیون جهانی شطرنج در هالکیدیکی یونان تصویب شد : رویارویی قهرمانی شطرنج جهان مابین استادان بزرگ ویسواناتان آناند (هند) و وسلین توپالف (بلغارستان) در ماه آپریل سال 2010 میلادی در شهر صوفیای بلغارستان برگزار می شود
پنجمین دوره مسابقات قهرمانی شطرنج مدارس آسیا به میزبانی فدراسیون شطرنج سریلانکا در شهر کلمبو برگزار می شود

| Asian Team Chess Championsip-2009 Men & Women will be conducted in Town Hall of Kolkata, India! Each Member Federation in Asian Chess Federation (ACF Zones 3.1, 3.2, 3.3., 3.4, 3.5 & 3.6) has the right to field one team each in the Men & Women Sections. Host Member Federation is entitled to field one extra team in each category. Men Team shall comprise of 4 plus 1 reserve and the Women team shall also comprise of 4 players plus 1 reserve.Download the invitation. |
A guarantee was presented as a letter by the Bulgarian Prime Minister. In the letter to FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov the Prime Minister stated that for technical reasons no formal bank guarantee could be provided, but that the Bulgarian government would guarantee the total costs of three million Euros (two million prize fund, 20% FIDE fees and the rest for organisational costs). The letter further stated that "neutrality would be guaranteed".
There were two other World Championship bids, from Turkey and Singapore, but for lower sums. These bids were withdrawn when the details of the Bulgarian bid had been presented. In the vote of the Congress the world championship was awarded to Sofia, by unanimous decision.
The match is scheduled for April 5th to 24th 2010. April 5th is the birthday of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. More details to follow.
